The Bluelab Soil pH Meter is built for exactly this, delivering fast, accurate pH readings of 0.1 resolution across hydroponic solution, soil, coco, rockwool, and potting mix from a single handheld unit.

The toughened spear-tip probe is designed for direct insertion into growing media, allowing genuine root-zone pH measurement rather than an indirect estimate. Calibration is a simple two-point process using a single push button and fresh calibration solution, with a 30-day reminder displayed on screen so accuracy is maintained over time rather than drifting unnoticed. A KCl-filled probe cap keeps the probe hydrated between uses, and a 2 metre cable allows readings to be taken in hard-to-reach locations across a growing area.

Because pH directly governs which nutrient elements are available for uptake, accurate root-zone measurement is one of the most useful diagnostic tools available for catching deficiency issues before they become visible above ground.
