Switching To Bloom?

Plants need at least 13 hours of light each day to stay in the vegatative stage. Plants begin flowering when they get at least 12 hours of uninterrupted darkness. If they can’t get their 12 hours, flowering can be hindered. With indoor gardens, a timer is the best way to ensure the plants get their sleep.

When to switch? There are two main considerations:

  • Age of plant:  Cuttings and seedlings can be switched straight off the bat, but it is best to wait for strong roots to develop and let the plant have a healthy vegetative period. 6-8 weeks is the recommendation for this.
  • Height of plant: Depending on the type, plants will generally double in size during flowering. If your room height is limited switching to Bloom will need to be done when the plant has reached 50% of the available height.

Once you have switched there are a few other things to do to help maximise your bloom phase. Increase your air flow as flowering plants prefer a slightly lower humidity. Avoid getting complacent, bugs and disease can still devastate your crop. Make sure light is spread evenly throughout the canopy to avoid uneven growth.
