Dissolved oxygen is critical in a hydroponic system. Plant roots require oxygen to drive aerobic respiration and nutrient uptake, and the beneficial bacteria responsible for biological activity in your growing media depend on it too. Warm water holds significantly less dissolved oxygen than cool water, making active aeration more important during warmer months when reservoir temperatures rise.

Aqua One air stones work by diffusing compressed air from a pump into a continuous stream of fine bubbles, maximising the surface area of air in contact with the water and improving oxygen transfer into the solution. At the same time, the rising bubble column promotes water circulation throughout the reservoir, preventing nutrient stratification and reducing stagnant zones where anaerobic conditions can develop. Carbon dioxide that accumulates in solution is also displaced through this process, keeping the water column balanced.

Intended for use with an air pump, check valve, and airline tubing. Available in a range of sizes to suit different reservoir volumes and setups. This airstone is 12 inches (approximately 30cm) in length, suited to larger reservoirs where maximum aeration and circulation coverage are the priority. A higher-output air pump is recommended to run it effectively.
