Successful propagation starts with a growing medium that provides the right balance of moisture, oxygen, and physical support for developing roots. Stonewool offers a sterile, consistent rooting environment that encourages rapid establishment while making irrigation management predictable.

Nutrifield Stonewool is manufactured from molten basalt and limestone, spun into fine fibres and formed into uniform propagation blocks. The vertical fibre structure encourages roots to grow downward through the block while maintaining an ideal balance of air-filled porosity and water retention. This combination supports rapid root development without becoming waterlogged.

The free-draining structure helps reduce the conditions that encourage algae and surface mould, while the rigid block protects developing roots during propagation and transplanting. As a sterile growing medium, stonewool provides consistent performance across seed raising and cutting propagation.

New stonewool must be conditioned before use. Soak the blocks in water adjusted to a pH of 5.5 to 6.0 to neutralise the naturally alkaline fibres before sowing seed or inserting cuttings.

Each block measures 35 x 35 x 40 mm and is supplied as a sheet of 84 propagation blocks.
