CO2 - your secret weapon
Carbon Dioxide, better known by its stage name of CO2, is an essential component of photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is a chemical process that uses light energy to convert CO2 and water into sugars; these sugars are then used for growth within the plant. So, adding CO2 to your grow room is a no-brainer. We've got you covered on how to do this - from the most basic CO2 additions to the technical controllers and gas bottles.
CO2 Candles: These aren't your ordinary wax candles. These candles contain CO2 oil and come in two sizes. The smaller size will burn for around 50 hours, while the larger one burns for about 110 hours. Place the candle safely and securely in your grow room, and it will increase the amount of CO2 available to the plants.
CO2 Pads: CO2 pads are an innovative and easy way to supplement your grow room with CO2. These pads are made from all-natural chemicals that, when exposed to humidity, begin a measured CO2 release. We know a pad that thrives on humidity sounds a little scary. But don't worry, you don't need to increase your grow room's humidity for these to work – they work off as little as 35% humidity. The pads come in different sizes to fit different square footage. They are the easiest way to introduce CO2 to your environment. Add one, and watch your plants thrive.
CO2 Bags: These funky-looking bags hang in your grow room and provide CO2 for your plants – it's as easy as that. The ExHale brand bags contain a strain of mycelium, a fungus that, once activated, grows and eats the substrate in the bag. This process gives off a heap of CO2 straight into your growing environment. The bags can last around six months and come in different sizes to suit every grow room. CO2 bags come in two types: pre-activated and non-activated. The pre-activated bags already have the mycelium activated in the bag with the substrate. These are perfect for when you need CO2 immediately, but the downside is that you don't know how long they have been producing CO2. The non-activated bags are the way to go if you can plan it. To activate, you put the mycelium in with the substrate and wait two weeks for the magic to happen. You are guaranteed at least six months of CO2 in your growing environment this way.
TrolMaster Controllers: This is the way to go when you want to take CO2 to the next level. The TrolMaster Controller can be connected to a CO2 Cylinder. With a myriad of sensors and monitors available, it's the only way to have ultimate control over your CO2. You can set the levels of CO2 you desire and connect fans for extra ventilation when unsafe CO2 levels are reached; you can even set it to call the fire brigade if dangerous levels and temperatures are reached. While these units are mostly used in growing facilities, home gardeners can use them too. You can learn more about the CO2 abilties on the TrolMaster website.
Each method of CO2 addition has its pros and cons; it's all about finding what works best for you. If you have any questions regarding CO2, pop down to your local Hyalite store, and our friendly staff will be happy to help.
